What is STEAM?

S is for Science: Students learn science concepts in their classrooms and explore and extend their scientific skills and knowledge with hands-on experiences.

T is for Technology: Students have learned, technology is defined as any tool people use to make a job easier. One tool we use often is the computer where students are working on computer literacy; using the equipment efficiently and responsibly.

E is for Engineering: Students are learning about and practicing the Engineering Design Process: ask, imagine, plan, create and improve.

A is for Art: Students are making art in the Lab and in the Maker Space. Not only that, students are learning about art and artists from many cultures, old and new, and learning to analyze and evaluate art.

M is for Math: Students work on developing their math skills in the Lab and the Maker Space whether they are measuring paper, cardboard or wood to create or practicing math skills on the computer.

June 8, 2020

Dear Concord International community,
Today (June 5, 2020) would have been Breonna Taylor’s 27th birthday. On this day, our school community recognizes Black Lives Matter and that because of the racist killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and countless other Black people, Black joy, light, and life has been unnecessarily lost.
Our staff has been in conversation about how to support Black lives in this moment and how to act to center the experience of Black people in our educational community. Below are details of our plan. While this plan is in response to the most recent and public spate of racist killings, we will use this moment to build out ethnic studies frameworks, including teaching Black Lives Matter, in every grade-level, in every classroom, for the 2020-2021 school year.

Robotics Club at Concord!

FLLLogo at Concord International School

Concord’s Robotics Team started in  October to create an opportunity for students to compete in the FIRST® LEGO® League competition (http://firstlegoleague.org) in December.

We have a group of 15 motivated and team-oriented students interested in learning Robotics skills and competing with other teams.  FLL teams compete on three fronts:

  1. Robot Game – design, build and program a robot to autonomously complete a series of missions around this year’s theme: “City Shaper”  (http://www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge)
  1. Project – identify a problem, research/develop an innovative solution, and create an entertaining presentation of your work
  1. Core Values – demonstrate teamwork and the other FLL Core Values (http://www.firstlegoleague.org/mission/corevalues)

The team meets after school Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.  Additional meetings may be added as the season progresses.
The club will run at as long as a team is in contention; December for the Regional Qualifier, or January for the State Semi-finals and State Championships.
